Carglo is an independent calculator of the cost of bringing a car from outside the European Union. We built it so that anyone – not just a dealer with ten years of experience – knows before buying what they will really pay.
How it started
Out of frustration with hidden costs
A car from a US auction looks like a bargain – until you add auction fees, transport to the port, freight, duty, excise, VAT, unloading, the tow truck, translations, the roadworthiness test and registration. Each item is “small”, together they can double the price.
The information is scattered across auction price lists, customs tariffs, exchange-rate tables and the rules of 27 countries. Broker quotes usually give one figure with no breakdown – and with their margin inside.
We built a tool that brings it all together, calculates with current rates and shows every assumption. No sign-up, no call from a salesperson.

Where the numbers come from
Current rates, not “roughly”
Every amount in the result comes from a specific rate that the report shows. Data is updated automatically or whenever the law changes.
Central bank rates
Reference rates fetched every business day, with a buffer for swings until payment.
Auction and carrier price lists
Copart, IAAI, Manheim and USS fee tiers, freight rates, port fees and per-km transport prices.
National rules
Excise, VAT rates of 27 countries, registration fees and mandatory tests – with the legal basis in the report.
How we earn money
Transparently – because it’s about trust
The calculator’s result doesn’t depend on who pays us or how much. We earn in three ways, all of them open:

- 2Optional enquiry to an import companyOnly if you ask, we pass your estimate to one verified company. It pays us, not you – and only with your consent.
- 3Labelled affiliate linksE.g. VIN checks or currency exchange. Always labelled, never affecting the estimate.
What guides us
Transparency
Every number has a source and a basis. If something is an estimate, we say so.
Independence
We have no stake in whether you buy the car or who imports it for you.
Precision
We calculate to the cent but also show a range – because importing isn’t perfect maths.
